19 of Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been won on hard surfaces

A resurgent the Russian player claimed his initial championship for over two years with victory over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

The Russian, a former top-ranked player, has endured a torrid period, winning just one win at the big events and suffering a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

The player's inconsistency on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his service game in particular - resulted in him dropping out of the top ten and eventually parting ways with long-term trainer his previous coach.

Currently training with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has consistently advanced in the last few weeks - peaking in a tightly fought three-set victory over opponent Moutet.

This marks his initial trophy after the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hardcourt from that period of that year.

Success also means the Russian has secured 21 victories at 21 distinct events.

"It's the first time I am participating in a tournament with my two daughters at once, so to secure a championship is especially meaningful," stated tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.

"This championship is in dedication of my child Victoria, because the first title I got when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had been defeated in his previous six championship matches, featuring in Halle previously this season.

Medvedev's retrieving strategy and regular reactions on the tennis court had led commentators to doubt if his ability to play at the highest level was finished.

However the 29-year-old has made changes in the past month, striving to advance forward and perform positively, reinforced by an enhanced serving game.

Medvedev recovered from a disadvantage in the first set against the challenging opponent, taking four of the last five points to take the lead.

The pair swapped breaks in the second set before the Frenchman, bidding for his first tour championship, seized the initiative to force a decider.

The opponent defended four initial break points in a competitive final set before the Russian broke to that score to secure the win.

Suitably, he earned the title with a rally at the net, with his opponent incapable to control a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
